CD images for Ubuntu 14.04.6 LTS (Trusty Tahr) 64-bit PC (AMD64) server install image. Choose this if you have a computer based on the AMD64 or EM64T architecture (e.g., Athlon64, Opteron, EM64T Xeon, Core 2).
Select an image
Ubuntu is distributed on two types of images described below.
Desktop image
The desktop image allows you to try Ubuntu without changing your computer at all, and at your option to install it permanently later. This type of image is what most people will want to use. You will need at least 384MiB of RAM to install from this image.
Ubuntu 14.04 Download
There are three images available, each for a different type of computer:
- PC (Intel x86) desktop image
- For almost all PCs. This includes most machines with Intel/AMD/etc type processors and almost all computers that run Microsoft Windows, as well as newer Apple Macintosh systems based on Intel processors. Choose this if you are at all unsure.
- 64-bit PC (AMD64) desktop image
- Choose this to take full advantage of computers based on the AMD64 or EM64T architecture (e.g., Athlon64, Opteron, EM64T Xeon, Core 2). If you have a non-64-bit processor made by AMD, or if you need full support for 32-bit code, use the Intel x86 images instead.
- 64-bit Mac (AMD64) desktop image
- Choose this to take full advantage of computers based on the AMD64 or EM64T architecture (e.g., Athlon64, Opteron, EM64T Xeon, Core 2). If you have a non-64-bit processor made by AMD, or if you need full support for 32-bit code, use the Intel x86 images instead. This image is adjusted to work properly on Mac systems.
Server install image
The server install image allows you to install Ubuntu permanently on a computer for use as a server. It will not install a graphical user interface.
There are three images available, each for a different type of computer:

1. New Icons
After installing Ubuntu 13.04 the first things you notice about a new set of icons. These icons have been changed and looks much glamorous than their predecessors.

2. New Window Snap Animation
Window snapping is a most popularized windows 7 feature, which offers a handy way to easily show two applications side-by-side without maximize a window or without needing to hit a button.
3. New Shutdown Dialogs
Signing out, shutting down and rebooting tasks that no one of us expect such wonderful things have been added. But seems like you will continuously doing it a bit more usually in 13.04 for one quick reason to watch out new Unity theme based session dialogs.

4. New Sync Menu
The Ubuntu One Sync Menu offers a single click to see whether you are online, share a file or view the status of recently uploaded files.

5. Workspace Item
Workspace Launcher Item removed from the Unity launcher, so now you manually add it from the System Settings –> Appearance –> Behavior.
6. New Bluetooth Menu
The New Ubuntu Bluetooth menu has been lively up with new toggle that gives you option to turning on/off and also gives you option to change visibility.

7. Online Account Toggle
Ubuntu Online Accounts is one of my favorite features for managing my all online accounts such as Gmail, Facebook, Twitter, Picasa etc from centralized ‘Online Accounts‘ dashboard.
You can add all these social accounts on different applications without needing to enter your login credentials for each and every one. A new toggle options have been added which gives a choice to choose which desktop applications can have access to which online account. For example, If I don’t need Empathy for my Gmail account, I simply turn off that.
8. New Lenses
Ubuntu 13.04 offers tow new lenses called, “photo lens” and “social lens“. To get better experience of these lenses you should integrate your online accounts. With photo lens, you can search for a images on your computer as well as linked online accounts.

Similarly, Social lens enables you to access your tweets and messages from your linked online accounts. You can also put filters as per your requirement.
9. Window Switching Methods
In Ubuntu Windows Switching Method never been easier as much. Alongside conventional methods, like Alt+Tab, comes in two new ways to manage workflow: Application Quicklists and Scroll over an application.

10. Performance Improvement
In Ubuntu 13.04, Unity has never been as much as fast. You can able to notice the difference when you open a web browser or file explorer which was closed before. It opens up in a fractions, but I really don’t feel any performance difference in lens. Apart from these, there are other several changes have been done as well. A Wubi tool which is used to installing Ubuntu under Windows, now not supported in Ubuntu 13.04 and Support period reduced from 18 months to 9 months for non-LTS release.

Upgrade from Ubuntu 12.10 to 13.04
I highly recommend you all to take backup of your existing Ubuntu installation before updating.
To get started, Launch the update manager by pressing “Alt+F2” and type in “update-manager” and hit enter.
A software updater launches and checks for updates if any.

If any updates available, you will get the following screen that says Updates software is available for this computer. Click on “Install Now“.
It will ask you enter root password to perform updates.

Once Updates finishes, you need to restart to finish installing updates.

After finish updating your system, press “Alt+F2” on your keyboard and type “update-manager –d” and hit enter. An Update Manager notifies you about “Ubuntu 13.04 is now available“.
